What Preschools Can Offer Your Child

By Connie Sears

Once your child reaches a specific age, he will have to go to school to start his education. As a student, he will be acquiring skills and knowledge necessary for his independence later in life. In his early years he could go to one of the preschools in NJ before studying in kindergarten. Enrolling in such a program can have many benefits.

The things that are being taught in this level are pretty basic. The teachers can introduce the students to letters and numbers. Your child can learn to identify the different shapes. The focus is not on the academics as many of these activities are fun and encourage creativity. Storytelling and games for example are common activities.

The activities are not structured yet. There is sufficient time for work and play. The children may play with puzzles, toys, paint and other coloring materials. There is reading and time for outdoor playing. Ideally, the teachers should have one on one time for each child but he should also have set aside time for the entire class.

Being a part of such a program gives your kid a chance to socialize with his peers. This is a place where he can meet boys and girls who are of the same age. He can make new friends and will have other kids to play with. He can learn how to act around other people and he will be more confident in social situations.

This kind of program also readies your child for student life. When he participates in this program, he learns what is required of him in the classroom. He will know that he is supposed to raise his hand and that he has to follow the instructions of his teachers. He becomes used to the routine, which makes him better able to cope when he is enrolled to kindergarten.

The classroom environment is different from one on one sessions. When you enroll him to these kind of classes, he will be learning along with other students. This can get rather distracting given that not all kids are focused on learning. At an early age, he will know what it takes to concentrate and to do complete the tasks that his teachers have assigned him.

When he first goes to these classes, he will naturally be shy and anxious because you are not around. A lot of children get pretty worried, some even throw tantrums when they learn that their mom will be leaving them behind. As he gets accustomed to this routine, he can becomes more comfortable with the setup and learns how to be independent.

In choosing such an institution, consider what kind of activities will be offered. The child should be taught his numbers and his letters but there should also be time for play. Find out how the teachers interact with the students and consider their credentials. Compare a number of schools in your area before making a decision.

Once a child is born, he starts learning about the world. The first few years of his existence will be critical to his development as he is learning at a fast rate. It will therefore be beneficial to enroll the child in preschools in NJ. It will give him a head start and will prepare him for formal education. It also helps him learn how to socialize.
