Some People Might Benefit From Long Term Rehab

By Lana Bray

There are more people in the United States that need long term rehab help than you might realize. For most, when the word rehab is mentioned the first thing that comes to mind is an addict sitting on a street corner with a needle in their arm. Fortunately for all of us, that is not what any of this really means.

There are cases in which people end up going to a rehab or treatment center multiple times in their lives before they finally get something out of it. When these people are put into treatment for the first time they usually come out before they stay the full term. There is either a 30 day or 90 day program for most.

For those who get their chance to go to a help center or treatment home they might not get the full benefit of the help that the center offers. The first couple weeks most people are either sick or angry. For those who are sick, the absolute last thing they want from anybody is to be told what they need or what they should do.

There are wound care patients as well who cannot get their wound to heal without assistance either. For example, some diabetics end up getting large wounds that will not heal over long periods of time. After many doctor visits there are some wounds that just do not heal. In these cases sometimes the patient needs some extra help.

Not that they are physically forced to go there like you might picture. But rather it is the courts that dictate they spend a period of time in the treatment center because it is the only way that they can make up for their drug related crimes. The court system figures that if they can make them go to treatment that maybe they might find peace and become rehabilitated.

The short term places just cannot do it. By the time they finally realize what they need to do to beat the system and get out of the treatment home it is already time to leave. 90 days is not even enough time. Even for those who actually want to do better or bring themselves back from the brink. They too need more than 90 days.

When they determine that they will attend a center and try to get the help that they need, the system will actually do them some good. Even though this might be the case, they might still need a long term rehab because anything shorter just will not do. If they attend a 30 or 90 day program they will just walk out at the end and use once again.

This is especially true for those who are forced to go into a center. Those who need treatment might not always know they need it, but at the same time being forced into long term rehab is not the answer either. Everyone who needs help cannot be forced into it and expected to have it work for them. This type of help will work, but the patient needs to want it.
