Depression is one of the most common disorders in the world today. It comes as no surprise because people much to deal with on a day to day basis. They become stressed and anxious. They may become tense because of what is going on in their personal relationships. Communication is often the problem and this is the reasons that people ask do I have depression.

It can happen for a number of different reasons. Some people develop manic depression because this is basically a mental illness. They complain about the fact that they can't get started in the morning. They find it difficult to get out of bed and to hold down a job. It can cause insomnia and the lack of appetite. You may find that you have a sense of apathy.

It may be something minor which is easily repairable. Many people are walking around with severe depression and find that it only takes medication to get back to the norm where they are back on their feet again. Other people find that they are depressed for a particular reason. This can go back to their childhood years where they struggled with a lot of trauma.

They may have recently had a tough time with domestic abuse or violence, for example. One always needs to talk about this before dealing with the depression because it is the situation and the circumstances which are getting you down. You can always bounce back once you have looked into the root of the cause.

When you deal with the depression, you will probably have to deal with the other problems in your life as well. This is often the reason that people are reluctant to go to therapy. They feel that they are not up to being vulnerable. There is no doubt, this is not easy. But then again, therapy is not like going to see the doctor. This is not an instant cure, but it will help you to get to the point where you can integrate with society.

It is good to talk within a group because this can help you see it from another person's point of view. You don't always realize that other folk are dealing with this as well. It makes you feel relieved that you are not alone and isolated in the process. It is different from individual therapy. It definitely has it has advantages.

Anxiety can develop when you are feeling depressed. It is a comorbid disorder that can develop into different types of anxiety which can be crippling when you don't address them. Things like panic attacks and social anxiety disorder are a nightmare to live with. One needs to deal with this before you encounter this.

It is at times like these when you can really fall apart. Your relationships can also be problematic. Support is what you need during these tough periods of your life. You may need individual counseling as well as family counseling. This will depend on the person and what their needs are. Everyone is different and the therapist will realize this.
