Qualitative Market Research For Businesses

By Jeannie Chapman

When it comes to doing business, grabbing the attention and loyalty of the customer should always be the main goal of the ones who are managing the business. Of course in order to do this, one has to know how to get into the minds of consumers and see how they think with regard to the products. Through qualitative market research, one can do that and improve their strategies just as well.

When it comes to business, information is everything and is a source of power. By knowing what the consumers think of a product, the business will know whether it should make any improvements or any changes in the manufacturing of the product. Of course the customer will say what they like about it and what they do not like.

Branding and packaging is also a very important aspect of any product and businesses will be able to get feedback about that too. Promotion is one of the four Ps of marketing and undoubtedly plays a very big role because it is the aspect that will help in giving good first impression to consumers. Now if the first impression of the product through the promotion is good, then people will want to take a look at it.

Also, it is very important for businesses to get feedback on the price of the product. A consumer will buy a product depending on whether the price does justice for the product or not. In other words, it is important to know what customers think of the price because customers will only buy something if they think that it is worth the price.

Lastly, it is the customers who will tell businesses what kind of product they would want and would definitely be willing to buy at the drop of a hat. If the business feels like there is a demand for a certain product, they can validate this feeling by asking the consumers themselves. That way, they will know whether to make a new product that will suit the tastes of the consumers or not.

For those who are rather new to this type of research, they are two common ways to conduct this type of thing. The first and easiest way would be to conduct interviews to certain people who fit the target market. It is through interviews that businesses will get the people to expound on their answers and make plans from there.

The group discussion will not enable the business to be able to get deeper answers as compared to the interview but it also does serve its purpose. The group discussion is better for those who have products that would target a really big target market. By getting answers and feedback as a group, then the business will have an easier time when trying to bring in a product to the market or make some improvements.

So as one can actually see, qualitative market research is actually one of the most useful tools in business strategy making. By knowing what the reactions of the consumers are, it is possible to be able to create tactics. They will then know how to position themselves in the battlefield.
