Why People Still Trust Mediums

By Shirley Scott

Since the earliest recorded history of humans, man has always been keen on maintaining a connection with the deceased. Today, believers look to a practice called mediumship to allow themselves to be read by mediums who claim to have psychic abilities. A San Diego medium can link the world of the living and the dead to provide closure to people who have dealt with tragic losses or to simply help them cope with grief.

In many cultures, there are specific times of the year when families reunite to celebrate the death anniversary of a loved one. There are many preparations preceding the celebration. Some like to prepare feasts and others hold masses or prayers days before the anniversary. Mostly, cultures tend to celebrate events like these in a positive light.

This just goes to show how much we respect the souls of the dead. An overwhelming amount of the population believes in the possibility of an afterlife. Because most of us share religious backgrounds, many of us can understand how others believe that death is not the final chapter.

Different religions and cultures may interpret the afterlife differently, but the main idea that there is more to life after death remains the same. For those who believe in this or are seeking for some sort of reconnection with spirits, mediums are often called upon. Now, this practice is highly controversial as there is hardly any evidence to back up any claims that these mediums make.

Many skeptics like to point out the absurdity of this practice. Still, others claim to have successfully spoken to their deceased loved ones during sessions with a medium. What can definitely be agreed upon is that all this debate and controversy only highlights our deeply rooted traditions that have anything to do with the dead.

While psychics rely on their sense of intuition when making readings for a person, mediums use the same intuitive abilities but take it a step further. They reportedly harness this energy and tune it into the spirits surrounding the person being read in order to deliver messages from the dead to the living. Because none of these practices are grounded on facts, there is no right or wrong way of choosing a medium.

Interested clients should just rely on their instincts to determine the authenticity of a reader. They have to be cautious in spending their money because faking mediumships is not that hard. Frauds mainly try to adopt the Forer Effect. This first begins by trying to get a client to reveal personal information using minor coercion and conversational tactics.

With this information, frauds can make claims that apply to almost anyone or at least to someone. With enough practice, they can make these sound believable and applicable to you because chances are, they actually do for most other people too. They can also spot physical clues like wedding rings or subtle hints like or a deep sigh in certain parts of a conversation.

It actually takes some serious skill and tons of experience to be able to pull this off. Because of the psychological skills that psychics have developed over their careers, some are actually capable of spotting clues in the demeanor of their clients that ultimately help them determine facts about other people. Still, those who believe in the supernatural should not be ashamed. If practices like these help people cope with grief, then perhaps they are actually harmless and rather beneficial.
