Is The Bbb A Scam Or Not

By Gwen Lowe

Now if one is not familiar with the Better Business Bureau in the United States of America, it is a website that would give a list of almost all companies in America. Now in this list, each company will have a corresponding grade and a few comments with the grade that was given to them. Now many are asking is the bbb a scam because recently, there has been some controversial news about it not being credible when it comes to their ratings.

Now there have been reports that the website of the Better Business Bureau is actually ripping people off. Now in the year 2010, there was a huge scandal regarding the bbb when it came to giving out grades to companies. Basically, they were said to have sold grades to companies and only gave good grades to the companies who paid the membership fee that bureau was offering at that time.

Now before this incident happened, many people did see the BBB as a credible source wherein they could see whether a company is worth associating with or not. Now if one does not know about the system, basically the Bureau sells companies a certain membership for a fee. Now that fee will actually vary per company depending on how big and how famous it is.

Now the one who featured the controversial news would be the ABC News as they were the ones who investigated it. Now there are actually a lot of individuals who think that this is actually a government entity that monitors the companies for any scams. Now what many do not know is that this is not a government entity but a non profit organization that sells memberships.

What the investigators find strange is the membership program as there is no standard fee. Also, one of the things that the investigators found out was that the members would get really good grades while the non members would not. In fact, Google, which is an extremely big company and a famous one too, just got a low grade of D.

Now of course there are a lot of cases where business owners would actually pay the organization to have a change of grades. Now many companies who had low grades would actually have higher grades after they have paid the organization a membership fee. Of course when word got out to the public, many people became wary of the Bureau.

Now the bad thing here is that even the businesses that were confirmed as scams got good grades and favorable comments. Of course this news release forced them to shut down one of their branches simply because many people were enraged about the Bureau. Sometime after two years, they closed down the South branch which was the branch that created the scandal.

Now if one would monitor all of these events that had happened in 2010, one would really be skeptical about this organization. Even if they are still up and running today, much of their credibility hash been lost. Their excuse is that only one branch has been doing that and the other branches were not aware of the activities of that branch.
