The Spirituality of Having it Your Way

By Celso Cukierkorn

Moses didn't return quickly enough from Mount Sinai and so the Jews made a golden calf to worship as their new leader. That made the Lord want to destroy the Jewish people, but Moses interceded.

As I have said in my book, Secrets of Jewish Wealth Revealed, if there is one thing we Jews have a knack for, it's negotiating.

It will be impossible to find other group of people that can negotiate as well as we do! Negotiating skills are not only crucial but a survival skill. Every time that we interact with others it is a negotiation. If you don't yet see it that way, you are losing out on each and every one of these opportunities.

Negotiating is a common daily practice in most foreign countries. As I travel the world, I have seen American tourists paying more for their nick-nacks than what was expected because they pay the price that was asked.

Like her, many people feel embarrassed to negotiate. However, that is foolish because you work hard for your money, so failing to negotiate is like lowering your wages.

The first rule for negotiating is that you should be in front of the other person. If I buy a condo, I want to present the offer personally.

You need to have a grip on the negotiation and be the one in charge if you want to succeed in this give and take process.

Another negotiating secret is to be flexible and always know when to walk away. If you're more interested in buying than the seller is in selling, you won't win.

In the bible, the act of negotiation is more usual than Prayer. Don't forget that many people in the scriptures were great negotiators. Lot negotiated on behalf of the Three Angels, and Moses negotiated with God (over and over again) on behalf of the Israelites. So did Abraham. If they could negotiate, why shouldn't we?
