Martial Arts Meditation Instruction Tips For Dummies

By Miranda Sweeney

When one does martial arts, he is constantly in motion and must eventually learn to slow down both the mind and the body. It is for this reason that meditation is a very important aspect for all martial artists simply because this would help cool the body down and help it relax. So for those who are into martial arts, here are some martial arts meditation instruction tips.

When one would meditate, he would usually be doing it once before the lesson and once after. The first one that he does is usually done so that he can relax his mind in order to concentrate on the lesson to be followed. Now the one after is done so that he will be able to relax his brain and body alike.

Now if one would do the first one, he will be assuming the Indian sitting position. Now if one knows how to do the lotus position like in Yoga, then it will be much better because this position is great for meditating. When one has already assumed this position, he then has to straighten both his spinal cord and his neck.

After doing this, one must now shut his eyes and start relaxing his entire body. During this state, he has to make sure that no unnecessary thoughts would be entering his mind. One technique that may do in order not to think of anything would be to think of the color black so that one will be able to block any thoughts going into his brain.

Now the next thing that one would have to concentrate on would be the breathing. Now do take note that while one is meditating, he will be doing a special kind of breathing. Upon inhaling, one will blow up his stomach a little bit. Now as he exhales, he will be making his stomach smaller as he would be taking out bad air.

The next aspect that one would have to take note of would be visualization. One of the key goals of meditation would be to harness certain energies in the body. So while one is meditating, he has to imagine that there is a certain energy that is flowing all around his body parts like through his stomach to his hands, his feet, and other parts.

Now as for the session that is done after the exercises, it is similar but with some differences. Now the purpose of the one after is to relax the body. After the martial arts lesson, one will lie down instead of sitting down. He will be assuming a position that is commonly known as the relaxation pose. Also, he will be breathing out through his mouth at times in order to give himself more energy.

So basically, these are some techniques that may be supplemented to the practice of martial artists. In schools in California, students cannot practice unless they would first meditate. Many schools there see this as a very important aspect to any combat art because it is exercise for the soul and the mind.
