The Beauty Of Antique Oriental Rugs

By Essie Osborn

Antiques today are extremely sought after. There was a time when they weren't appreciated at all, and before the trend set in, some people capitalized on collecting various priceless articles. Some of them invested in antique oriental rugs, which are extremely popular today and have been for quite some time. They are beautiful additions to any home, and can be used regardless of the design scheme. Perfectly crafted, they are durable and long lived.

Over the years, machines have made their way into all industries, and the rug making industry was no exception. Of course, machine made rugs cannot compare to those made by hand. There is so much that goes into each one, with their intricate detailing and one-of-a-kind designs, they can impress anyone can improve the look of any home.

For centuries, they are renowned for their warmth and appreciated for the hours on end that were involved in creating them. Because there is so much care involved in making them, they are more durable and long-lived than those made in modern day times. They are always made of natural fibers, of either silk, cotton, or wool. These rugs are never made of synthetic blends.

Much like an artist creates a beautiful painting, the same is true of these rugs, which are actual works of art. As such, good quality and rarer ones will maintain their value, so in the end such a purchase is more of an investment than an expense. They come from different parts of the world, mainly Asia and Persia.

For those who wouldn't know where to put them, there is no end to their use. They look fabulous in bedrooms, dining rooms and formal living rooms. They defined the borders of the room to create better conversational areas. Narrower and longer ones, like runners, are ideal for long hallways that lead guests into the home with class. Round or oval ones are perfect for wide halls.

They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so one won't have any problems incorporating them into their homes, for whatever purpose they are to serve. However, before making the investment, which sometimes can be quite hefty, it's important to understand how they're made, what they're made of, and if they are authentic.

Begin with understanding the terminology. Every industry has its own terminology, and the more one understands, the wiser their purchasing choices will be. The more one knows, the more they can stand to gain over time, as their rug may increase in value.

They were created often by individuals for their own purposes or to sell to the affluent of their time. They are eye catching thanks to their uniqueness and the use of their wonderful colors that blend into beautiful design. Remember that these were created by very skilled individuals, sometimes for themselves and sometimes because they were mandated and paid by the rich. Whatever the case, they have proven to be valuable rugs that have withstood the test of time.
