When you walk in the door you need to feel welcomed into the church. The next thing you need to look at would be the praise and worship. Is the music outdated and boring? Do you feel or don't feel the Holy Spirit moving? Or is it what you are looking for? Then you need to look at the main service. Is the preacher boring and you want to fall asleep, or are you really learning something.
It is important to have a look at the Sunday school if you have children. Are your children getting a biblical lesson or are they only playing game all the time? Another thing that you should consider is what security measures are in place for the Sunday school? Could your child easily slip out unnoticed? Could a person who isn't the parent easily walk off with your child?
A church should be more pro-active in ministries. You cannot have churches who only focus on preaching and that's all they do. Churches should get involved in the community and spread the gospel across the globe. They should fill the need in their community as a church.
There are so many areas that a church could help to impacted the community. However, it is not the responsibility of a church to get involved but it can start with you. As a Christian you could see a need and begin to fill that need. Sometimes churches have already allocated their resources to the various ministries their church is involved with. This doesn't mean that a normal Christian couldn't start something up to help the people in their community.
