CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. CPD involves the process a person uses for the purpose of expanding skills, learning new information and experiencing formal and informal types of knowledge. A person experiences these processes when engaged in completing tasks. CPD also recognizes accomplishments in a person's daily life that are not related to a job. A worker who embarks on this path typically gains experience, and then applies learned skills to improve work performance levels.

CPD often refers to the documented development that occurs to a worker who has experience. In certain settings, CPD is utilized in various types of training and development courses aimed at enriching a person's general skills and giving the individual the ability to prepare for more difficult jobs in the future.

Why should a person use the CPD process? This excellent question merits an answer. The continuing professional development process assists individuals in their attempts to learn new skills. CPD also consists of looking at a career in an uplifting manner while applying known skills to perform work.

Recording goals assists a person to weigh future progress against predetermined goals.
