Seeing things through from start to finish is important, as it can be tempting to start one piece of work, then another and have several projects on the go at once. This can apply equally at home or at work; starting to clean a room, then doing a little ironing, then the garden can result in nothing being finished and leave a dissatisfied feeling at the end of the day. For starters, it keeps the hands busy in a calming fashion. When you have a crayon in your hand the simple back and forth motion can be very soothing. Whether it triggers nice childhood memories or is just a motion that relaxes you, it is easy to find that you settle into a nice rhythm.

Get enough sleep: Adequate sleep fuels your mind as well as your body. Feeling tired will increase your stress because it may cause you to think irrationally. There are numerous proven techniques which encourage this state of intense rest and release. This article focuses on rhythmic, deep, diaphragmatic breathing. This vital stress management tool is "right under your nose" and as near as your breath! When you focus on slow, deep breathing, the in-breath fills your lungs and causes your lower belly to expand as the diaphragm descends downward into the softness of your relaxed belly.

Try it right now:Relax your body and free yourself of any signs of tension. Allow your tongue and jaws to relax. Drop your shoulders away from your ears. Let your abdomen relax and become softer, freeing yourself of all tension from that part of your body. Become aware of your breathing just as it is. Inhale and take in a deep, full breath.Allow the breath to flow all the way down into the lower belly. You can imagine that there is a small balloon in the belly. As you breathe in, allow that balloon to smoothly inflate. As you breathe out, feel how the balloon easily collapses. Take in several of these measured, gentle, deep breaths.

Many people find that they can start the page with a great deal of anger reflected in their strokes. You can often see the difference from the harder, less intentional strokes of the crayon to the softer and more reserved strokes. This is visually satisfying because you can see that it is working. As you start to see the pattern of strokes from one end of the book to the other, you will notice that it takes less time for the hard strokes to soften.

The act of tuning into something like this has profound physiological effects and can help you reduce your reaction to emotional tension faster and with greater ease. It is certainly not comfortable to be worked up. Allowing an activity to help you cope is a great way to learn how to stay calmer.

You can spend leisure hours listening good music or enjoy your hobbies that allow you to counter long term stress and its ill effects. Hobbies help you to refocus and take time for yourself, giving you the chance to fix the stress toll on your mind and body.
