What Is The Job Of A Medical Tourism Facilitator

By Leslie Ball

Tourism means promoting what the country has that others do not have. The concept usually pertains to various places that have scenic spots to offer. However, the definition is not limited to it. It is also used to describe medical tourism. This is the kind of medication where you have to travel to another country for you to acquire it. There are various reasons for this.

It is a growing trend in the medical community and for people who are seeking specific types of treatments. One of the reasons for the popularity of this trend is the cost. People usually travel to third world countries because the cost of the therapy is lesser there. Others do it because of the rarity of the procedure and sometimes, other methods are not yet legal in such countries. If you are searching for a certain procedure, you can always ask a medical tourism facilitator.

They are far different from travel agents because they have direct connections to medical facilities as well as information regarding the operations. They even have various connections to different surgeons that can handle specific surgeries when needed. In short, all of the information that you might need to know can be answered by these people.

Training is a prerequisite before one can be called a facilitator. It is true that they are the bridge that connects both parties and information regarding the services being provided. But they also need to know what goes on in the surgery proper to provide their clients with the background of what is about to happen.

Most of the time the patient would be asking how much the cost of the treatment would be. And you have to provide them with an estimate. Quotes vary depending on the condition of the person and the complexities that they are experiencing. Aside from that, you also have to include some other expenses such as travel costs so that they will have an idea about the probable cost for their trip.

It is essential that the records of the patient be transferred to the hospital in charge of the treatment. This is a standard operating procedure for of the local hospitals. And this should also be strictly observed for all of the transfers no matter what the place is. It might even get more complicated if the transfer is done overseas.

The patient is usually the one to hire a facilitator. And if you are the one they will hire, you will also be tasked to arrange the communication between the surgeon or doctor and the patient. It is important that you set up a relationship between the two of them first so that the your client would know how to proceed.

All the travel details and accommodations will be handled by you. You will not only be effective for medical purposes. You will also arrange all the details regarding their travels. If they have their own travel agent, you have to contact and coordinate with them regarding the matter. This is so that you can be sure that the arrangements would not jeopardize their health.

Following up the condition of the client is essential. It is not a gesture of customer service but one of the responsibilities as a facilitator. You have to be certain that there are no complications right after the surgery and everything is fine when they arrived.
