By Jose Stewart

Given that life is not a journey that is predictable getting confused in some moments is inevitable; sometimes one may even be stuck trying to decide with direction to take in life. In regards to getting confused about career direction Canada has put it upon themselves to make sure that people have the chance to follow paths that makes them realize the lines of works they are suitable for and feel fulfilled working in.

As one gets older, career choices tend to change as it reaches a point where one is indecisive of the choice to make considering this is a decision that one will live with for the rest of their life since it determines the next phase in their life.

Having an idea of what one wants to pursue in life when at a young age is very advantageous since one is able to nurture the skills they would require in their preferred line of work and as a result become the best at it even a young age. Parent and teacher play a major role in this point in life as they help one in identifying what one is good at and help in finding ways to pursue it.

Although talents are God-given and are abilities that come naturally, it is through practice that people get to perfect them and become the best at them. By pointing out ones talent, it becomes easier to know the career path that one is suitable for as this makes it their most comfortable field and one that they are competent in and can easily succeed if pursued.

The education system has over the years been used to determine the career paths people follow and to some extent even forcing people in following directions they never anticipated for. This deprivation of freedom is seen by the way people are denied the chance to pursue the courses they want just because they have not reached certain marks that are required in grading students into the various courses; instead, they are forced to settle for other courses.

For this, there are a lot of people who are employed just for the sake of earning a living and are not in the careers they dreamt of or were passionate about. This, as a result makes it difficult for one to give it their all and as much as they may prove to be competent.

Over the decades, the Canadian education system has made some stride in trying to rectify the systems that deprive students of these freedoms. For instance, students are able to choose the subjects they want to major in, they are every now and then engaged in talks that help them reflect on the career choices they would want to make and having structures that nurture young talents.

It is crucial to understand that being confused at any stage especially career wise is normal as some people even choose to make changes in their majors even after two years in college. It is all about pursuing what one loves and if this changes with time, then one may also choose to change their mind and shift their priorities.
